March 21 is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination established by the United Nations. In Montreal, Canada, thousands of people took to the streets on this day to participate in an anti-racism march.
The parade was led by Asian groups and participated by multiple organizations and institutions. The parade walked about 3 kilometers in the center of Montreal and reached the end point in Chinatown. Demonstrators of all ethnic groups held up slogans with the words "Hate is a virus," "Stop hating Asians," and "against racial discrimination," to protest in unison against violence and hate crimes against Asians.
The marchers also held a memorial service for the victims of the Dalian Ring shooting in Atlanta, the United States, in the Zhongshan Park in Montreal's Chinatown. Three shootings occurred in Atlanta, Georgia, USA on March 16, resulting in the deaths of eight people, including six Asian women.
